Is There a Free Trading Journal for Sierra Chart?
Short answer: yes, a few. Sierra Chart’s own trade log and trade statistics cost nothing extra, and a spreadsheet is free if you don’t mind copying trades by hand. Tradervue has a free plan, and TradesViz has one for stocks only. Parallax, Tradervue and TradesViz also have 7-day free trials of their full versions.
The free options at a glance

| TradesViz free plan | Free | – | Some | Stocks only, no futures |
| Free trials (Parallax, Tradervue, TradesViz) | Free for 7 days | Yes | All | Paid afterwards |
Free option 1: Sierra Chart’s own trade log
Sierra Chart already records every trade you take and can show trade statistics for them. There’s nothing to install and nothing to pay.
What it covers: your fills and trades, profit and loss, and basic statistics.
Where it stops: it isn’t a journal. There are no notes or tags on a trade, no calendar of daily results, no reports by setup, session or time of day, and no easy way to look back across months or several accounts at once.
Free option 2: a spreadsheet
Excel or Google Sheets costs nothing and can hold anything you decide to track. A simple layout:
| Date | Symbol | Side | Qty | Entry | Exit | Stop | Target | P&L | R | Setup | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6 Oct | MNQ | Long | 3 | 28,644.00 | 28,713.00 | 28,614.00 | 28,734.00 | $414.00 | 2.3 | Pullback | Waited for the retest |
An example row (made-up figures). R is the P&L divided by the risk to your stop. Add a second sheet that totals P&L by day, by week and by setup.
Where it stops: every trade has to be copied by hand, which is the part most people stop doing after a few weeks. Charts, filters and anything like MAE and MFE (how far price went against and for you during the trade) have to be built yourself.
Free option 3: free plans of web journals
- Tradervue has a free plan alongside its paid Silver and Gold plans. Its pricing page doesn’t list the free plan’s limits, so check them on its site. It has a guide for importing Sierra Chart trades.
- TradesViz has a free plan, but it covers stocks only, so it doesn’t fit futures trading, which is what most Sierra Chart traders do.
Free plans are a good way to see whether you like journaling at all. Expect fewer features and limits on how many trades or accounts you can import.
Free option 4: free trials of full journals
A trial gives you every feature for a short time, which is the best way to see whether a journal fits how you review your trades.
- Parallax Trading Journal: 7-day free trial. It imports each Sierra Chart trade the moment the position closes, with its stop, target, MAE, MFE and P&L path, and keeps your data on your own PC. After the trial it costs $16 a month, $149 a year or $299 once.
- Tradervue and TradesViz also have 7-day trials of their paid plans.
To get the most from a trial, use it during a normal trading week, so it has real trades to show you.

Free or paid: how to decide
- Free is enough if you take a few trades a week, trade one account, and are happy to copy trades into a spreadsheet.
- Paying makes sense when the copying stops happening, when you trade several accounts (prop firm accounts especially), or when you want reports that would take hours to build yourself.
The best journal is the one you keep up. If a free setup gets you reviewing your trades every week, it’s doing its job.
